Glue the 3 frame pieces flat, as shown. Overlap the sides for about half their length, ie 3cm. Glue bearing block at the end and leave to dry.
2 cut & punch bearings |
Punch holes in card triangles before fixing. Use a 6mm punch or punch
3 fit bearings |
Glue the triangles to the frame with the drive shaft through the holes. This will help you line up the holes. Arrange for the shaft to cross the frame where there is a gap.
4 assemble pulley unit |
Push a short piece of dowel into the hole to form a 'pulley' and use a small length of PVC tubing to keep the thread in place.
5 fit thread
|
Use strong thin thread for the 'cable'. Hold the shaft in place by pushing two PVC stoppers on the shaft, one above the top card triangle and another below (don't push them on so far that they both touch the triangles - the shaft must be free to spin). Tie one end of the thread to the shaft between the triangles. The thread will almost certainly slip, so stop that happening with a tiny piece of sticky tape. If you're not very good at tying knots then just use sticky tape. The thread runs over the pulley and hangs down. You will need to fasten a weight to the end so perhaps you could make a hook from a paper clip |
