VEHICLE - BUILDING INSTRUCTIONS

1

Cut and build the main frame [chassis]

Cut the five pieces of wood that form the main frame, or chassis.
You can drill the 5mm diameter hole before or after gluing.
Glue the pieces together - flat on a table top or board.
Fit the 2 triangles. Put a dowel through the holes while gluing to keep them level.

2

Assemble front axle

The 10cm long axle beam must be drilled [5mm] exactly in the centre. The dowel front axle is glued under the beam, [It blocks one end of the hole]
Use two strips of sticky tape to keep the dowel in place while the glue dries.

The short dowel pivot can be fitted in the hole.
If it isn't a good tight fit then glue it in place.

3

Build and fit wheels

The card discs are too thin for suitable wheels - the system shown opposite solves the problem by using a card square to increase the thickness at the centre, where it matters most. Two small pieces of wood are use as spacers. The best way to line up the holes in the disc and the square is to make yourself a JIG, as shown. It is just a piece of dowel fitted into a block. Build all the wheels on the dowel of the jig.

There are other ways to build wheels using card discs, but for them you

will need 2 discs for each wheel. See opposite.

Assemble your vehicle using paper or plastic spacers to position the wheels on the axles and using plasic tube 'stoppers' to keep the wheels from falling off.
DO NOT glue the pivot into the hole in the chassis or it will not steer!
