Glue the PIVOT to the beam - between 4 and 5 cm from one end. Glue the 2 pieces that form the slot to the other end. Leave a little gap between them - just enough for the thickness of a piece of card |

The base is made from corrugated card. the sides are bent up to make
it stiffer The pivot is fastened to the base with a simple bent card hinge. The pivot is glued to the hinge and the hinge is glued to the base |
3troll's body |

The troll's body is made from 2 rectangles
of card. They are hinged together with a piece of sticky tape. The smaller piece is glued into the slot on the beam |
4fitting the thread |

Cut 2 slits in the end of the base card
[shown in red]. Fasten a double piece of thread to the body exactly level with the hole in the other card. You will find it easier if you poke a small hole for the thread. Pass the thread through the punched hole - down either side of the beam - then pull into the slits. Adjust the thread so that, when you push down on the other end of the beam, the troll body springs up. When you are happy fix the thread with sticky tape under the base |
