Teaching Budd:e
Budd:e has been developed for secondary schools, specifically for pupils at Key Stage 3 (in Years 7 and 8).
Budd:e maps to the UK National Curriculum for ICT, Citizenship, and Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) at Key Stage 3. Further, Ofsted has declared that outstanding schools will have a well-considered, active approach to keeping pupils safe when they are online, and help them to take responsibility for their safety (The Safe Use of New Technologies (090231). Ofsted, February 2010. At www.ofsted.gov.uk/).
The module is suitable for use by pupils working alone, working in small groups, or for teacher-led whole class activity via a data projector or interactive whiteboard.
There are three main sections to the secondary learning module, the GAME, VIDEOS, and FAQ. A fourth section – the STUDIO – is where pupils may use their credits from the GAME for parts and accessories to customise a Budd:e.
Typically, an individual pupil will work through the Budd:e GAME in 20 minutes. However, the activity raises complex cybersecurity and related issues. Therefore, allowing for class discussions, a session of the Budd:e GAME might provide the foundation for a full (approximately) 40 minute lesson.
To support teaching of the module, here you will find a detailed cheat-sheet for the GAME, plus learning outcomes.
